34 Posts | I remember getting my first Jaguar in 1995 for the price of $130 which included the pack-in game Cybermorph. That first experience with Cybermorph left me disappointed until I found the other games in the library like Wolfenstein 3d and Trevor Mcfur. The Jaguar is my all-time favorite system. 735 Posts | I was excited and had extremely high expectations. I figured everyone would drop their SNESes and go straight to the Jag. Boy was I wrong.
I thought Cybermorph was pretty cool. Trevor McFur was meh... But it was always Alien vs. Predator that I drooled over and waited for. Tempest 2000 came out and I still didn't buy one. The minute AvP came out, I got a Jag. Loved it. And shortly discovered what I had been missing with T2K! |

123 Posts | Well, this forum isn't real busy, for one thing. And some of us (hate to admit it) have never played a Jaguar, so I don't really have much to say about it personally, I'm just surprised that it's your favorite console, considering it doesn't have a big library, have a great selection of games, and isn't backwards compatible or very expandable with much of anything else (I don't have a problem with that or anything though, just pointing it out). Hopefully you'll get some more replies down the line though

I've never had the experience to play the Jag CD makes me sad although it only has 13 games in its library. All these new modern games confuse the crap outta me with the endless storylines and difficult to remember button combos. Long live the old school! | | |

Some systems fared worse...the Microvision was axed before it hit that many games. And what was it that died with only one game being released, was that the Halcyon (sp?)?

I've become less and less enthralled with each new gaming system over the years. I've wondered here and there if it was just because the 2600 was a wide-eyed, new world for me and I was just in junior high when it came out and it was a good time to be alive as far as games went, since they were in their 'golden age' then, with lots of good stuff out there, computers were getting affordable and were more powerful and all, etc. Because I got my 7800 and wasn't real gung-ho about it. Same with my Genesis, even though that's another severely classic system too. And it's not because I happened to get a bunch of crappy games and I thought the whole system was like that (that's the way it went with my Sega Master System, as I bought it from a friend and most of the games her kid had bought were el stinko), I was just kind of like 'ok, I'm having some fun, I've got some games, I'm able to rent a lot of them...so what?' (shrugs) Dunno, gaming just seems to get me less exciting as the years go on...even though I'll play games until the day I die (and hopefully afterwards!). I guess it's because there's hardly anything new about there now, maybe...

BTW, forgot to even answer the title of this thread, in regards to my first impression (yes, I can have one even if I've yet to play one ): it had some kind of advance limited release in a few cities or something...New York and Los Angeles maybe, I'm not sure. I was reading about it and being a bit psyched that Atari was coming out with another new, powerful console. And I saw a photo of it later and recall sending an e-mail to a friend, saying 'it looks cool! It looks like a car!'
(thinks about it for five minutes, in regards to it's name)

34 Posts | I can relate to that wide-eyed remark u made about the 2600, although when I was in junior high it was the release of the Jag that had me wide-eyed lol.
My first system I owned was a Colecovision at age ten, traded my friend some Legos for it. It only had 2 games with it, Donkey Kong and some Cabbage Patch game lol. The rf cord was crap so the image was fuzzy. I remember the power supply transformer being like the size of a brick lol, it probably could have really damaged a windshield!
When I first got a Jag I remember telling people about it and they were mostly idiots. As soon as they heard the name ''Atari'' they automatically assumed the system was old with a cpu running less the 1.4mhz lol.
I also relate to ur comment about loosing interest as more and more new hardware and games are released. Yeah they have fancy graphics and fast cpu's but IMO no games today can compete with a fast paced game of Centipede! Pac-Man is still huge, Space Invaders will never die and Pitfall Harry is a legend. Now there's so many games with names I can't pronounce it's crazy lol. | | |

That might've been due to the stupidity of Coleco (they did quite a few not so bright things in that system's design) for putting some kind of oil in the rf box...it would cake up over the years. There's a simple fix for it though, just apply some fresh oil to it I think...

Plus it takes forever to go through a 200 page instruction book for some of them too...

34 Posts | Google Pac-Man proves that old school gaming is still rampant! Don't be fooled by all these new systems and games with their fancy bells and whistles.....nothing will beat simple gameplay and the satisfaction of knowing you don't have to memorize a button combo consisting of 8 different buttons just to play a game. Yes, the Jaguar controller does have a numerical keypad but it's mostly used for infrequent commands like scrolling through weapons or editing volume or camera angles. The main action buttons consist of 3 orange ones (A, B, & C).....simple enough. The Playstation 3 and XBox360 controllers have so many buttons it makes games to complicated IMO.
Added to that is the new games these days....it seems like countless menus, long storylines etc.......all of which, require an individual to have a good memory....which I don't lol. To complicated for me.....I'll stick to the old school. That ends my rant lol | | |
