Arcade to 2600: A to H - The Atari Times
Comparing the arcade to the 2600 versionsby Gregory D. George
April 30, 2007Looking back on it now, the 2600 was obviously a poor substitute for the arcade machines of the day. Seeing these screenshot comparisons makes me regret all the hours I wasted playing. :(
Well, I wouldn't say your time was wasted just because the graphics didn't look the same. Maybe for other reasons, but not because of graphics. ;-)
At least many of the games played faithfully anyway.
Remember it's not always the graphics that count the gameplay is more important.
Gameplay is everything. I know how a modern game can be deceptive when it relies only in the graphics/techincal console capabilities.
I was a kid during Atari's heyday in the early 80's, didn't live anywhere near an arcade or anywhere else with arcade machines...me and my friends were so thrilled to have video games at home that we didn't care how different they looked and sounded from their arcade cousins. To this day I still love Atari, and the memories it brings back are priceless.
Looking at it now, I actually find Atari graphics cute! I love the squary pixels! and I love the NTSC color palette of the Atari very much!!!!
See some love I devoted to it here:
