Qix - The Atari Times

Qix

Draw it like you mean it
by Gregory D. George

February 18, 2002
Creating a unique mix of action and puzzle genres to make an engaging game is one of the most difficult of tasks in all of video gaming. Thanks to Tetristhe industry has rarely ventured out of the of the "pit-dropping" style that monster of a game created.

Qix is a game unique in style created before Tetris took over the world. It has no hang-ups about being something other than the pit-drop game we've become used to. Your goal is to draw boxes on the playfield and claim the property for yourself. But you must avoid the ethereal Qix floating in space and watch out for the sparx that will zap you on your own lines.

The great thing about Qix is that there is an endless variety of play mechanics and techniques. Go left or right? Circle the playfield or go straight up? It's all up to you.

Qix is one of my favorite games. In any form, it will always get a good score from me. The only thing that hurts this version is the annoying sound in between levels.
